I Just Want to Sing!

Very often, singers claiming, "I can't read music" do so with a bit of emotion in their voice.

It might be sadness, possibly frustration; it can even sound a tiny bit angry. Whatever the emotion, almost without exception it is music theory causing the emotion … or more accurately, it is the way music theory has been presented to them - on one particular occasion or over a long series of events, in which the emotion is rooted.

The notes and the numbers and the alphabet and the fractions and the majors and the minors and the do re mi all start sounding like Charlie Brown's teacher after a while. Having to listen to wah wah wah at 8:03 on a Thursday night after a long day of work and kids can be more annoying than ants in your beer. "I just want to sing!"
